We are now a Certified B Corporation

Purpose Union is now a Certified B Corporation. It’s a huge milestone for us. We’ve been around for four years, supporting our clients to find, communicate and achieve their social purpose. Being a Certified B Corp will enable us to not only speak with authority, but also equip us with more tools as our clients look to embed purpose in their daily operations.

Practicing what we preach

Our Founding Partner Barry Johnston said:

"As a social purpose advisory, we’ve been aiming to become a B Corp since we were founded. We wanted to practice what we preach. Going through the process has given us a brilliant insight into what’s needed which will help us be better advisors to our clients.

"Getting your B Corp Certification is a really satisfying moment as a business founder. It has reaffirmed the good business practices we aimed to put in place from the start but also helped us focus on new priorities. Even simple things like formalising and reporting on existing good practice and company culture helps you build your rating.”

Naomi Matioli, our Head of Operations who led the process, said:

“As a purpose-driven organisation that helps clients tackle the biggest issues of the day, it was incredibly important for us to show that we are also championing this work internally for both our employees, the partners we work with, and the communities we interact with.

“The process is particularly thorough, with a diligent team assisting along the way. It also helped us to refine some of our processes when we saw that we were missing out on points due to certain policies or areas that we had not previously thought about. It wasn’t always the easiest process, but it’s been very rewarding knowing that we are changing our organisation for the better.”

Transforming the global economy together

It’s a privilege to add our names to more than 6,000 organisations across the globe who are championing a better way for businesses to operate. Together, we truly can transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet.

Barry Johnston added:

"Even before getting our certification we’ve been part of the B Corp community helping to run B Lab UK’s Better Business Act Campaign. The campaign aims to update director duties for all UK companies to be run in line with the B Corp principles.

"Regulations are going to eventually catch up with where consumer sentiment is, and companies will increasingly be asked to demonstrate their social and environmental contribution beyond turning a quick profit. In a couple of years, the question from consumers and employees will be, 'why aren’t you a B Corp?'. B Corps are just getting ahead of the game."
